Gaijin No Bijinga - 2009 - 'Opera' - Museo de Bella Arte installation, System at work

Gaijin no Bijinga - 28 May - 4 July 2009

Bijinga
(美人画) is a generic term for pictures of beautiful women in Japanese art, especially in the ukiyo-e genre. The term can also be used for modern media, provided they conform to a classic representation of a woman, usually depicted wearing a kimono.
Gaijin:
(外人)A Japanese word meaning "foreigner" or "non-Japanese". The word is composed of two words: gai (), meaning "outside"; and jin (), meaning "person". Thus, the word literally means "outside person."or "outsider"

The first solo gallery show by Jason / System.
New work inspired by Bijinga art of Japan with elements of graffiti finding their way into the illustrations, from the calligraphy of graff lettering to the destroyed textures of buffing.
Growing up as a graffiti artist, being an outsider was natural to my temperament. Involved in an artform misunderstood by the public and an outsider to the artworld. And when I stopped dropping lettering in public an outsider to the graff world. Now inspired by the woodblock prints of Japan I could be considered an 'outsider' working in Bijinga..

Remi / Rough and myself painted the entrance to the Galeria Nuble and were also invited to be part of the exhibition at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Santander for a show entitled 'Graffiti' along with a few of the local writing crews. Full coverage with local TV and newspapers. A great opening day with live rap and breakdance crews.
