Prologue - 8 Feb - 5 March 2008

Nancy Victor Gallery
is proud to present ‘Prologue’.
A group exhibition by Jay One, Juice 126, LX One, Remi/Rough, System and Timid.
Six of the most important artists of their genre and generation.  Prologue sets the story, of what is yet to come…
Street art has left it’s urban landscape and has infiltrated popular culture like no other culture before it. The clientele it commands is an extraordinary array of modern lifers, corporate companies and avid collectors. There are no fakers in this show, the combined development and history of these six artists adds up to almost 150 years. This is quite undeniably, the real deal.

Jay 1 grew up on the rough streets of Paris, painting alongside Ash2 and Lord Skki of the legendary Bad Boys Crew. He now exhibits his beautiful paintings all over the world and has a stream of big name collectors in his address book,

Juice 126 is the granddaddy of the UK scene, still living and working in his hometown of Birmingham. His abstract colour distortion and colour demolition artworks are highly saught after by collectors from as far as Australia. This is the first time Juice has shown work in London in over 10 Years.

LX One from Strasbourg is part of a generation of artists who develops a protean style of work, between design, graphic design, digital design, and graffiti. Influenced by figures as diverse as Vasarely, Warhol, Pollock, Keith Haring, Escher, Picasso and Futura 2000.
LX One lives within a sophisticated, graphic universe.

Remi/Rough was born in South London in 1971. He is essentially a graffiti writer, although that description really doesn't paint the entire picture anymore. He is also an acclaimed graphic designer and musician. Remi has exhibited his artwork in Perth, Hamburg, Paris, Strasbourg, Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, Los Angeles, Edinburgh and London.

Timid has worked as a children’s entertainer, sweater folder and toothpaste tester before settling on a career as a artist and film maker. Over time his work has evolved from straight up portraiture to something more abstract, looking for symmetry and chaos in architecture and the human race.
My work is heavily influenced by abstract graffiti styles, particularly colours and letterforms.
This fascination has led me to photograph and film many graffiti artists and to work with them on exhibitions and installations.

System from North Wales has been painting graffiti art since 1985. He started his own graffiti art business after leaving school in order to travel the country to paint. As one of the prime movers of the Iconoclast Movement since 1990, he worked to promote the ideals of spray can art through many national and international events and exhibitions.
An illustrator, graphic designer and computer games artist, System’s mercurial nature is the backdrop of his multiple personalities fighting to work together.
