Vurt : Role Playing Through the Looking Glass

No one knows exactly what it was during that time before it's discovery and no one will agree on what it is now but once the gates to realm of Vurt were opened, everything changed. Beginning with the bio-technical revolution that allowed dreams to be recorded onto a replayable format, allowing anyone to travel into dreams as though they were real - via the Dream Feathers. Discovered by the Amorphologist "Miss Hobart" and advanced by the great Vurtcorporations of "Phantasm" and "Chimera" - the world became fixated on other peoples dreams and the possibilites for experience they offered. The Vurt began to take on a life of it's own and the surreality became commonplace as creatures and things from the dream world were gradually taken out - the Vurt bacame part of reality. Presently no records remain in the Librarynth to shed light what was done with the new found Vurtual technology, only theories remain about how all of this has come to pass... ABSOLUTE MUSICK THEORY Sumware was created to play a new sound technology, Musick, but only five singles were released before it was discovered that Musick was altering peoples DNA. Some found that they had become sterile and campaigned against the government for action. Miss Hobart then discovered Fecundity 10, a powerful fertility agent and subsequently discovers Vurt. MUSICK & VURT THEORY First Hobart discovers the Vurt, allowing the new dream technology of Sumware to be created - from this advance comes Musick which changes the DNA of any who hear it. The sterility it causes creates a consumer backlash and it is Hobart who again triumphs with the discovery of Fecundity 10 from within the Vurtual world. THE THANATOS THEORY A biological rain known as Thanatos, scoures the world - destroying countryside and causing widespread sterility. Hobart discovers the Vurt at the same time and the first product that springs from it's discovery, Fecundity 10, is the nations saviour. By the time new genetic lines of DNA were dicovered it was too late - humanity itslef was changed forever. NEWMONIA THEORY After Vurt was dicovered, the Civil Serpents of the Vurt broadcast Carryon particles to the populace in an attempt to modify social behaviour - instead it had a dramatic effect on humanities DNA, producing new genetic bloodlines. THE VURT THEORY Forget the fact that your best friend is half Dog; forget the fact that you pay your rent in feathers; forget the fact that you eat the daily news and your living next door to plastic people. You have a gig in ten minutes and ten thousand freaks are waiting for you to pull a never ending fractal of sound from the Limbic Splitter, using the noises you were dreaming of last night. Your crew are on a mix of Cortex Jammers and Fluff and the half dead bouncer has taken a dislike to the scent of your portable flower clock. Just keep one thing in mind... It's all just a dream, it's just a dream.

The Vurt Role Playing Game is the debut game from Bullets Of Autumn and uses the unique story system, the Mobius Engine. This game is extrapolated from the universe created by Jeff Noon and is a small slice of the detailed, rich and developed setting of Vurt The Role Playing Game. Bullets Of Autumn have worked closely with Jeff Noon, making sure the game reflects the spirit and atmosphere of his imagination whilst answering numerous questions that his novels have declined to solve. The first is the Glossary - this contains an explanation of all the core terms from the Vurt series, compiled from exhaustive conversations with Jeff Noon about what exactly he meant by some of his ideas. Some things I listened to and nodded because they were as I thought and other concepts were more baffling once they were explained. The other section is a description of some of the Feathers from the Vurt universe and their media blurb as told by a Game Cat, this was commisioned from Bullets Of Autumn to be a part of the Pixel Juice book but I'm glad it never got that far.
